National Family Caregiver Support Program Administered by Ouachita Council on Aging Most older people prefer to remain at home, even when their needs for care are great. As a result, many family members are assuming responsibility for these care needs. Family caregivers are now providing the majority of long-term care in America. Caregivers who are able to receive help with tasks, and relief from pressures, are less likely to “burn out” and are better able to help loved ones for the long term. The National Family Caregiver Support Program has been developed to provide support services for these families. If you are a family caregiver (no matter what your age) who takes care of someone age 60 or over, you may qualify for this program operated by the Ouachita Council on Aging. Services include: Respite, Personal Care, and Sitter Services which provide care in the home with bathing, dressing, eating, sitter assistance, and supervision in order that the Caregiver may have valuable “time off” from their duties. Material Aid, in the form of nutritional supplements, medical equipment, and other such supplies, is also available to clients of the NFCSP. Call Stacey Pailette, (318) 387-0535, ext. 207 to find out more about the National Family Caregiver Support Program. |
